Western Pacific 804A

In March of 1970, the CalZ was discontinued. WP had no further use for the "passenger F-units"; so they renumbered them into the freight series in April of 1970. Also, at this time, WP was purchasing new power and needed trade-in fodder. For some reason, number swapping occurred (probably the freight F7's were broke down and beyond economical repair). Anyway, passenger FP7A #804A got renumbered to #915A, and freight F7A #915A got renumbered to #804A on 04/21/70. FP7A #804D got renumbered to #916D, and freight F7A #916D got renumbered to #804D on 04/16/70. The freight F7A were then traded in under passenger FP7A numbers!. The image on this page of WP #804A is actually WP #915A! Interestingly enough, WP FP7A's #805A and 805D were traded in at this time and never got renumbered. Stranger still, 5-year older passenger F3A's were retained and renumbered by WP at this time! #801A became #925A, #801D became #926A, and #802A became #926A. #803A was wrecked and disposed of prior to the renumberings. - Lynn Powell
